About Uma Kahn
Uma Kahn Uma's eclectic history with movement as a spiritual discipline started with the martial art Tang Su Do at age 14, followed in college by an exploration of Sho Du Kan karate, Tai Chi, kickboxing, and Capoeira. Since 1998, her immersion into yoga has become the centerpiece of her vocational and spiritual life.

Uma began her formal study of Ashtanga yoga and Pranayama (breath work) in Mysore, India in 1999. Over the two years that followed, she earned teaching certifications in Hatha yoga from Darren Main, studied the Anusara Principles of Alignment with Katchie Gaard, and completed the Greenpath Yoga teacher training with Clayton Horton. Uma earned her Thai massage certification in Chiang Mai, Thailand (January 2000), and has California state certification in both Pregnancy massage (with Mahriah Blackwolf) and Prenatal Yoga (with Britt Fohrman). Uma is also a level 1 Reiki practitioner.

Uma has a BA in Communications and an MBA from Eastern Michigan University. She spent a year apprenticing in the Berkeley Ayurvedic clinic, and continues her studies with doctor and teacher Dharmanidhi Sarasvati in the esoteric study of Tantra and yoga therapy through the Trika Institute, based in Berkeley, California. She has worked for many years as an event planner, a wilderness trek leader, a self-defense teacher and a ropes course facilitator/trainer, among other things.
Currently, Uma is teaching and practicing yoga, meditation and massage publicly and privately throughout the Bay Area, with a diverse client base that includes senior citizens, incarcerated teens and men and women of all ages.
